Capodimonte is a small and charming town overlooking the southwestern shore of Lake Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Europe, north of Lazio. It has an almost round shape, typical of its origin, two islands and an emissary river, a total area of 113.5 km² (fifth in Italy), a maximum depth of 151 meters. Perched on a steep promontory, the charming village of Capodimonte is dominated by the Rocca Farnese. For the splendid position and the beauty of the landscape it is called the pearl of Lake Bolsena. Capodimonte is also an ideal seaside resort for lovers of nature and outdoor activities, having a long promenade with large green areas, flanked by a black volcanic sand beach also equipped for relaxation. In the eastern most part there is the tourist port, the departure point for ferries to the two islands of the lake: Isola Bisentina and Isola Martana. To the west of Capodimonte is Monte Bisenzio, today an archaeological site, evidence of the Etruscan origins of the place.
